Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With tens of millions of customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Job Overview

Come join the DataX team as a Software Engineer 1!

DataX captures customer tax data from any source, at any point in the tax experience. That includes documents customers upload from their computer, photos of paper forms taken on their phone, and data imported directly from third parties like payroll providers and financial institutions. We classify each document, extract the tax information, and apply it to the return, so customers answer fewer questions and finish their taxes in minutes instead of hours. DataX is a foundational building block of the future of TurboTax.

Our team is building the document acquisition experience inside TurboTax's AI-powered tax assistant. When a customer says "add my tax docs," our agent tools, services, and UI components let them upload, snap, or import their documents right in the conversation, and then show them what was found and applied to their return.

Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality software end to end, from requirements and design through code, tests, documentation, and release. Roughly 80–95% of your time is hands-on coding.

- Build and extend AI agent capabilities, such as tools, skills, and orchestration logic, that let our assistant help customers upload, photograph, and import their tax documents.

- Build customer-facing UI components, like capture flows, upload progress indicators, and document summary cards, in close partnership with designers and product managers.

- Deliver features that span multiple services and repositories, coordinate with the teams that own them, and keep pull requests small, focused, and easy to review.

- Make our systems more resilient by improving error handling, timeouts, retries, and fallback paths, and by taking part in bug bashes before and after launches.

- Instrument features with telemetry and clickstream analytics so the team can measure adoption and diagnose failures quickly.

- Help maintain AI quality: run and analyze evaluation suites and production traces, find the root cause of failures, and close the gaps.

- Join the on-call rotation (starting as secondary) and take part in incident response. Resolve defects found in QA, pre-production, production, and post-release.

- Contribute to early quality activities, including peer reviews of estimates, designs, and code.

- Prototype and spike alternative approaches when the right answer isn't obvious, and demo your work to the team.

- Work cross-functionally with product management, design, QE, data science, and partner engineering teams to deliver against shared commitments.

- Balance feature work with tech debt reduction and operational excellence.

Qualifications

- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- 0–2 years of professional software development experience. Internships and co-ops count.

- A solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design) and how to apply them in practice.

- Proficiency in at least one of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Java/Kotlin, and willingness to work across both frontend and backend.

- Experience building or consuming web services and APIs (REST).

- An understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Git-based workflows, and code review.

- An understanding of unit testing and Test-Driven Development (TDD).

- A strong desire to learn. You're curious, you ask thoughtful questions, and you seek out unfamiliar areas, including production incidents.

- A self-starter, can-do attitude and a willingness to take ownership of problems from start to finish.

- Clear written and verbal communication, plus strong partnership skills.
